In nearly six decades since the company was first established in 1939 at 924 E. Church Street, Stockton CA, its executive, sales and service personnel have schooled themselves intimately in hardware. Incorporated into Central Valley's operating policies are the principles that helpful service to our customers is vital to our growth and development.
John D.Turner, Sr., founder, brought with him many years of personal experience and knowledge of what a retail hardware store needs in both stock and replacement service to prosper and grow. John Turner was followed by sons John D. (Jack) Turner, Jr. and Robert Turner, Sr., and currently by grandsons David, John, Robert, and Frank, who have grown up in the business and in doing so have become specialists in the mechanics of wholesale hardware distribution, contract hardware and door business.
As a result, Central Valley hardware, a family-owned enterprise, is a closely-knit organization able to offer 24-hour service to our customers and geared for future needs of our market.
Central Valley hardware is a reflection of the tremendous growth that has occurred in the valley since 1939. When the firm started we listed one salesman, one buyer, one order clerk and three warehousemen on our payroll, supplying orders from 50,000 square feet of warehouse space. We were designed mainly as a distribution center for family owned retail hardware stores.
Today the firm has 2 salespeople in the field, 2 buyers, 8 warehouse and production people, 4 order clerks and 5 office workers in addition to the 2 members of the Turner family.
Two brick and iron buildings contain approximately 50,000 square feet of warehouse space, completely protected with sprinkler systems and stacking areas 20 feet high, housing an inventory of over 2 million dollars.
The market has changed drastically the last few years, aided in no small way by the large discount houses such as Costco and Home Depot. Central Valley Hardware has changed with the demands of the market and as you visit our product and services section of our web site you will be made aware of Central Valley's dedication and ability to service this ever changing market.
